Andretti Racing PC-CD Glide/H3D Upgrade F.A.Q. Q. What does this patch do for Andretti Racing? A. It features native "Glide" support for 3Dfx-based hardware accelerators. This yields higher framerate (faster gameplay), smoother special effects, and a cleaner overall look to the game. Furthermore, it features H3D support. Q. What do I need to run Andretti Racing with this upgrade? A. You will need a 3Dfx-based graphics acceleration card, along with Glide 2.4.3 (or newer) drivers for it, in order to take advantage of this patch. You will need special hardware (the "H3D PC System" and "H3D Eyewear") as well as the 3Dfx acceleration to see the "3D" aspect of the upgrade. Q. How do I install this upgrade? A. If you installed Andretti Racing to its' default directory (C:\Program Files\EA Sports\Andretti Racing) you can simply double-click on the Andretti Glide/H3D icon and then click on "Unzip". This will automatically replace your original Andretti Racing.exe with the "new" Glide/H3D version. If you installed the original Andretti Racing to another directory, simply type the path to that directory in the "Unzip To Folder" field before clicking the Unzip button. You can also choose to open the file with WinZip and extract it where you wish using WinZip's "Extract" button. WinZip can be downloaded at http://www.winzip.com Q. What if I wish to change back to the original version of Andretti Racing? A. Insert the Andretti Racing CD into your CD-ROM drive. Locate the "Andretti.exe" file and right-click on it, select the "Copy" option in the pop- up menu. Now, locate the directory on your hard drive where Andretti is installed. Open this directory, right click and select "Paste" (select "Yes" if you are asked if it's OK to write over the existing Andretti file). You are now back to the "CD" version of Andretti Racing. Q. Do I need to do anything before I run this version? A. Yes. This file replaces the Andretti Racing.exe which was installed from your Andretti Racing CD (and now resides on your Hard Drive). With one exception, the saved preferences are carried over between versions. The "Hardware Acceleration On/Off" radio button in the Set Graphics screen now acts as the "Glide/H3D" toggle. The position of this toggle is saved, so if you had "Hardware Acceleration" set to OFF with the CD version of Andretti, this Glide version will read the toggle position as "Glide with H3D". Please make sure this switch is in the "correct" position for your hardware setup whenever you swap this patch and the original CD version. Q. Can I run "in software" with this version? A. No, this version is "Glide Only" and needs to be run in a 3Dfx accelerated environment. Q. What is "H3D"? A. H3D is a technology which allows stereo ("3D") viewing on your PC when using the proper "H3D" hardware. Q. Where can I find information about "H3D"? A. Visit their website at http://www.h3dmedia.com or call their customer service department at 1-800-H3D-2155 Q. Can I change between Glide/Glide with H3D during the game? A. Yes, use the "HOME" key on your keyboard to toggle between modes during gameplay. Voodoo Rush based accelerator cards can only change modes in the Set Graphics screen (using the Radio Button). Q. Can I increase the 3D effect? Y. Yes, using the "/" and "." keys (on the numeric keypad only) will increase and lessen the 3D effect, respectively. The screen will appear to "change depth" using these adjustments. Q. I have no mirrors in the H3D mode, why? A. The mirrors are disabled in H3D mode even if they are "On" in the options menu. You cannot toggle them on. Q. I see lines before I race, is this normal? A. Yes. The multicolored lines seen before a race (or when switching H3D On/Off) are normal; these lines are present even in the "GLIDE Only" mode. Q. What drivers should I run for my 3Dfx accelerator? A. You will need Glide version 2.4.3 to use this patch; check http://www.3dfx.com/download/sdk/index.html for the latest drivers for your specific card.
